Cinder by Marissa Meyer
A diverse retelling about an iconic fairy tale figure!? Now that would be an epic show or movie, and Netflix is the perfect outlet to reinvent traditional classics such as Cinderella. Can you imagine the series being divided for the whole Lunar Chronicles with each princess having her own show!?

Pride by Ibi Zoboi
I could imagine this having a stellar and hip soundtrack to jam too, lots of sass and sarcastic humor. Not to mention the vibrancy that is NYC!

I know it looks like I’m stuck on retellings but this one is too good to ignore. I’m definitely getting Dark and Ares vibes out of this 😍

A Cuban Girl’s Guide to Tea and Tomorrow by Laura Taylor Namely
This looks like it could be such a fun adaptation! I’m imagining the humor of Jane the Virgin mixed in with Hugh Grant’s dry British humor.

Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalo
Since we’ll be getting an Enola Holmes film that features Millie Bobby Brown as Sherlock’s younger rebellious sister stepping into her own criminal investigations, why not have another adaptation that features a strong female detective attempting to catch one of the world’s most famous killers?

Bad Blood : Secrets and Lies in a Silicon Valley Startup by John Carreyrou
I’m utterly obsessed with Netflix documentaries/doco-series, and I’ve seen them all from drug cartels to true crime to corporate scandals. I would love to add Silicon Valley to the list 👀

You Deserve Each Other by Sarah Hogle
This reminds me of Netflix’s Set It Up which is one of my fav Netflix original films and rom com movies. It’s a lovers-enemies-lovers trope? Seems like the perfect night-in to me!

Since You’ve Been Gone by Morgan Matson
I’m a sucker for fluffy and sweet movies just as I am for books, this seems like the perfect summer movie! It includes a bucket list, ice cream parlours, and a “boy next door” type of love trope. Super cute.
Revolution by Jennifer Donnelly
This definitely has Outlander vibes in the sense you’re traveling between two different time zones of different regions with two different MCs! : Present day Brooklyn to 1700s Paris amidst the French revolution. I can never get enough of historical fiction 😍

Dreamland Burning by Jennifer Latham
Another parallel “reality” novel but this would be amazing if it got adapted properly to the screen. It speaks about an important and often discarded part of the history of African Americans; The Tulsa Race Riots. I suggest to look it up if you don’t know about it, it’s crazy how many Americans weren’t taught or were made aware of this before. In specific I recommend Youtuber Bailey Sarian’s vid.
TW: Racism, Derogatory words and Ethnic stereotypes (in particular to African Americans and Native Americans), violence, attempted rape.
I loved Bad Blood! I believe there is a documentary out there about Elizabeth Holmes, but I haven’t watched it yet!

I would love Since You’ve Been Gone so much. I’d take any of her books, but I want that one the most because it’s my least favorite in her set*, but it’s the one I most love the IDEA of and think has the most potential, so I’m really open to changes (*there were a few things on the list I didn’t love, and I think an adaptation might cut some of them out or just make them seem more harmless in general. Plus if they cast the right guy so I could buy into the romance more, that’d help)

Really? I enjoyed Since You’ve Been Gone but if there are better books by her, by all means please refer them to me! I totally agree about the importance of casting especially in YA contemporary romance, to often they look like glammed up adults in their twenties. I’m also kind of tired of Netflix picking that one guy to play all the love interests in these movies before zeroing in on another one lol.
